Came across an interesting announcement that might interest anyone who's looking for an "inexpensive" scanner and/or printer that can handle 11 by 17-inch paper. (That's the size of a standard page of original comics art, and folded in half it's 8 1/2 by 11 inches for "magazine size" comics.)
[link] Brother is set to introduce one of these "all-in-one" units that copies, scans prints and faxes. At $300 it might not meet your definition of "inexpensive", but it sure beats the the $1000 - 2000 I've seen being charged for large-format scanners lately. (Main exception being the Mustek for $200; butu if I'd known this was coming out, I think I've have held out for this and paid the extra for the priinting and copying functions.)
So anyone who's looking for a large format scanner and/or printer might want to give this a looksee.
(Still can't change the mood icon.)

If you've seen my work, you will see why a 11*17 scanner is a must for me. Can't keep scanning my stuff in with a camera, holding my breath so I don't shake and mess up the picture

I thought I should tell you about this printer. I just received them at work and put them out on my display counter (I've been working for Staples for years). I don't recommend this printer for the following reasons:
1. Brother inkjet printers have always been cheap and flimsy and crappy. Trust me, as one who sells office equipment for a living I know!
2. The Brother ink system sucks. If one cartridge runs out, you have to replace the damn thing, or the printer will not print! I can't tell you how many pissed off customers I have had come to me and tell me this.
3. God are they slow!
4. The print heads are pieces of crap. They seem to die fast.
5. I see to many of this brand returned because they are unreliable.
So in conclusion, while this is an attractive price for an 11x17 AIO, I can't recommend it as a professional. It would be better to wait and see what Canon might come up with or even HP (I don't like HP much, but they are a far better alternative to stupid Brother inkjets {I like Brother laser printers fine though}) I hope Canon comes out with something to compete with this Brother price point. That would be an excellent product (Canon is my biggest seller at work).
