The Herculoids was (is) one of my favorite cartoon shows ever, and here are my renditions of my two favorite Herculoids, Tara and Zok.
This was supposed to have been a fun little pic - an afternoon's worth of work, after which I'd go on to some "serious" work (well, as serious as my stuff gets, which isn't very).
But finding good color reference on these two was difficult. There are a number of Herculoids clips on YouTube, but most of them are such poor quality, it's hard to tell exactly what colors you're looking at. So I kinda just guessed.
Anyway... right in the middle of coloring this, I decided to get ambitious and render it in a more "painterly" style, as I did the recent Velshen'narith pic. (I'm always setting myself more work than I need to...)
I think you got the colors pretty much exactly. Watching the cartoons , I came away with the impression that Zok felt especially protective of Tara. This , of course , was just my childish filling in of the backstory...

this is a really beautiful pic and I love it a lot. it feels so richly textured and 3-d that it feels very realistic. Great art, man! Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this one.
Thanks, Varchild and Jack-x; I'm rather proud of the textures.
The simplicity of the art in the TV series left a lot of details undetermined, such as: what exactly is the texture of Zok's skin? Scaly like a lizard? smooth like a salamander's skin (only dry)? I went with something in-between.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
