Pencil sketch on 8 1/2 by 11-inch paper

Chainsketch for :iconcyckath: who requested a "muscular woman in dowdy glasses wearing librarian garb". I just took that to mean "a muscular librarian". So here she is.

This was more difficult to do than I expected; I think it's because I've somehow developed two different drawing techniques: one for "real world" materials like pencil, and one for the tablet in the computer. And because most of my work lately has been done almost entirely on computers, my "real world" drawing skills are beginning to atrophy. So I intend to use the rest of the chainsketches I've agreed to do to help me get those skills back.

wow so what is it with the chain sketch can you request anything at all
:icondcmatthews:
Oh, absolutely! If you make it into someone's chainsketch, you can tell them what you want 'em to draw. (Has to fit deviantART's submission guidelines, of course, and there might be certain subject matter the artist won't draw, but yeah, pretty much what you want is what he/she draws.)

Of course, remember: you then have to offer five sketches yourself (or five of whatever you do - short stories, poems photos, etc.)

I have no idea if or when I'll be doing another chainsketch.

This is very good - uniquely good. I wonder if maybe you do better when there's a time or effort constraint. Otherwise your perfectionism comes into play and style overwhelms your raw inspiration.

I will play the devil's advocate part here (whether it is for the greater good or because I like to torture people is up to the reader to decide). Is it really that important that you recover your skill with the pencil? If all computers became useless pieces of junk (the scenario has been discussed since before home computers were a reality, the explosion of a nuclear weapon at very high altitude) it would be a must, but again, if computers went bust other more rudimentary skills would be required first to survive the Armageddon. As an experiment or for the fun of it I can understand it, otherwise I think some skills have little use nowadays, like using a dial phone or those calculus rules popular with nerds from another era. Albeit I have to admit I kinda like a good hand made inked drawing, but my personal collection has never made anyone rich ^^;

You should not worry.

This is a great picture...

Excellent on all levels! That is one meaty bicep...:) Keep up with your pencil skills. I can't draw to begin with, thus only my 3D poser artwork.
